Synthesis and characterization of a dual ON-doped peri-tetracene on Au(111)

Abstract:
We report the on-surface synthesis of a dual ON-doped peri-tetracene on Au(111), integrating edge oxygen atoms and backbone nitrogen atoms within one peri-acene framework. Bond-resolved STM, together with STS and DFT calculations, reveals its atomic structure and electronic properties. Notably, substrate-induced charge transfer possibly gives rise to a Kondo resonance, with open-shell S = 1/2 ground state.
