Proximal humerus osteomyelitis after injection of influenza vaccination is a rare but potentially debilitating complication. An otherwise healthy 55-year-old woman presented with acute osteomyelitis after influenza vaccination. This case report describes successful treatment with intravenous antibiotics and subsequent shoulder arthroscopic d?bridement, manipulation under anesthesia, and capsular release for secondary adhesive capsulitis. Consideration of proximal humerus osteomyelitis as a potential risk after flu vaccination is an important tool for orthopaedic specialists and primary care providers because failure to diagnose penetrating bone infection early may lead to prolonged disability.
