The crosstalk between gut microbiota and hypertension: Mechanisms and therapeutic prospects

Abstract:
In recent years, the gut microbiota has increasingly been recognized as a potential therapeutic target for hypertension and its complications. Although current pharmacological interventions have effectively slowed disease progression, a substantial proportion of patients still present with refractory hypertension, which appears to be closely associated with the gut microbiota. Integrating recent advances in this field, this review comprehensively examines the bidirectional crosstalk between the intestinal tract and the circulatory system and explores the potential mechanisms by which the gut microbiota influences hypertension. Furthermore, we discuss potential strategies for treating hypertension through gut microbiota modulation and outline future research directions. This work aims to provide novel insights and a reference framework for hypertension treatment and research.
