Abstract:
The advent of therapeutic antibodies has revolutionized the treatment landscape for various diseases, particularly in oncology and immunology. These highly specific biologic agents bind cell surface proteins, offering targeted therapeutic strategies with potentially fewer side effects compared to traditional treatments. However, the increasing use of these antibodies has introduced new challenges in transfusion and transplantation diagnostics. This review article explores how therapeutic biologics interfere with serological and pre-transfusion testing, focusing on biologics that target CD20, CD38, and CD47, discusses current remedies and solutions to mitigate these interferences, and considers possible interferences from new drugs and drug targets.
