Unveiling Nanocellulose from the Perspective of Morphological Engineering

Abstract:
Green bioeconomy materials supported by biomass resources will undoubtedly be the next economic form. Nanocellulose is a carbon-containing renewable energy source that can replace fossil energy, and it can help alleviate the current dual pressure of environmental deterioration and energy shortage. With the rapid growth of nanocellulose in various application fields, the problem that different types of nanocellulose are better suited for different applications has emerged. This article starts with the morphological engineering of nanocellulose and establishes a line from the preparation method as the starting point to the application as the end point. When the starting point is the same, turning on different switches along the line will result in cellulose presenting different morphologies, thus corresponding to different endpoints. Our aim is to deeply explore the influence of this "regulation" in the preparation process on morphology, to discuss the inevitable relationship between different morphologies and applications, and to establish a causal relationship between different factors in a progressive manner. We hope to further the in-depth research on nanocellulose by deepening the understanding of the regulation and control strategies of the three-level structure of cellulose at the nanoscale and the design of functional characteristics.
