Evaluation of the canadian radiology residency websites

Purpose:
Prospective radiology residents rely heavily on program websites when selecting training programs. This study evaluated the online content of Canadian radiology residency websites.
Methods:
All active Canadian radiology residency program websites were systematically reviewed using 30 criteria across five domains: application, recruitment, education and research, clinical work, and resident benefits. The prevalence of content within each domain was recorded.
Results:
Nineteen Canadian radiology residency programs were identified, all with dedicated websites. Of the 30 evaluated criteria, 29 were represented across programs. Four programs included over 80% of all criteria. Overall, domains related to education and research (52.6%) and clinical work (36.8%) were the least comprehensively represented, despite strong representation of specific elements such as educational resources (78.9%) and research opportunities (84.2%). Curriculum information appeared on all program websites. Resident benefits were poorly documented, with most programs lacking details on salary, parking, and meal allowances; only one program included all benefit-related information. Embedded PDFs provided supplemental information for some programs. The highest-performing program overall met 86.7% of criteria.
Conclusion:
Canadian radiology residency websites frequently lack comprehensive information valued by applicants, particularly regarding clinical workload and resident benefits. Enhancing the scope and consistency of online content may help programs provide prospective applicants with more complete information.
