Abstract:
The detection of biological fluids such as semen and saliva is crucial in forensic investigations. However, no existing immunochromatographic test allows the simultaneous detection of these two body fluids, which means that if a sample is suspected to contain a mixture of these, multiple tests must be performed, thereby consuming the biological trace. To address this gap, SERATEC® has developed a new rapid test, the SERATEC® PAM test, capable of simultaneously detecting Prostate-Specific Antigen and α-amylase. This study aimed to validate this new commercial test. Our data show that this test is a valuable tool for forensic investigations. Nevertheless, the occurrence of false-positive results with other biological fluids indicates that this immunochromatographic test should only be used for the presumptive identification of biological fluids and cannot definitively determine their nature. A cautious interpretation of the results in the context of investigations is therefore necessary.
