Abstract:
The routine analysis of mutant strains of Ustilago maydis includes monitoring of fungal pathogenic growth. Defined developmental stages including filamentous growth on the leaf surface, appressoria formation, and plant penetration, as well as hyphal proliferation in planta can be visualized using a straight forward and low-cost staining procedure using Chlorazol Black E staining.
