Abstract:
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the destruction of platelets through autoantibody-mediated mechanisms in most patients. Mouse models of ITP can serve as valuable tools for emulating key facets of human ITP pathology and facilitating the exploration of both conventional and innovative therapeutic strategies. This chapter outlines a passive model for inducing ITP using anti-platelet antibodies, with thrombocytopenia assessed by peripheral blood platelet enumeration. Furthermore, we detail a method of how to mitigate the thrombocytopenia in this model through the administration of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg).
