Abstract:
Leptospires require specific conditions and nutrition to survive and thrive, essential for its ability to multiply or adapt to in vitro culture. This constraint on laboratory cultures limits the applicability of in vitro studies to the understanding of even simple pathogenic processes and diagnostics. Culture of leptospires in a laboratory setting using DMEM and EMEM media, common for culture of mammalian cells, is an alternative that mimics host environmental conditions, less complex, with high performance, and lower cost, which are imperative characteristics to improve routine laboratory activities and studies of leptospirosis.
