Abstract:
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in patients with sepsis is a growing problem worldwide. This article will describe the most current world scenario of AMR in patients with sepsis, from epidemiology to diagnostics to therapeutics, in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of today's challenges and the potential solutions for the future. We propose that the combination of improved bedside microbiological diagnostics, more efficient pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic utilization of therapeutics by simultaneously reducing the utilization of unnecessary antibiotics and increasing patients' colonization resistance is the most efficient strategy to prevent the further dissemination of AMR infections in patients with sepsis.
