Abstract:
Femoroacetabular impingement with cam morphology can be idiopathic (influenced by genetics, athletic involvement, and hip anatomy) or secondary (due to conditions like slipped capital femoral epiphysis or Legg-Calve-Perthes disease). Radiographic, cross-sectional (such as computed tomography and MRI), and 3-dimensional reconstructive imaging can aid in the diagnosis. Predicting surgical outcomes based off known radiographic resection parameters can be challenging as alpha angle and offset ratio have poor association with patient outcome measures. The goal of arthroscopic resection includes restoring femoral head sphericity and femoral head-neck offset which can be reliably achieved with use of a 2-tiered resection technique.
