Textbook-Based Note-Taking Guides Improve HESI Scores for Accelerated BSN Students
Abstract:
Failure to progress in nursing school has negative consequences for students, institutions, and the nursing profession. Poor student engagement, cognitive overload, and perceptions that institutions do not care contribute to student attrition. A retrospective analysis of student outcomes in an accelerated baccalaureate nursing course supports implementation of a textbook-based note-taking guide as a cost-effective learning strategy for Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) examination preparation and improved scores. Students relayed that the guides showed the instructor was engaged and thoughtful of students' time.
