Purpose:
Early sepsis bundle therapy serves as the cornerstone in the management of sepsis, yet the optimal time targets for its administration remain unclear. We quantified the time interval for the use of bundled therapy and assessed the association between the delay in initiating bundled therapy and in-hospital mortality among patients with suspected sepsis treated in the ED.
Materials And Methods:
Patients with sepsis were collected retrospectively from January 2019 to December 2024, and we divided the sepsis bundle therapy time into two intervals: ED to sepsis bundle orders (recognition delay) and sepsis bundle orders to sepsis bundle implementation (treatment delay). Subsequent statistical analyses were conducted to evaluate the correlations between these two time intervals and patient prognosis.
Results:
After adjusting for confounding factors, the two time intervals were associated with the mortality rate during hospitalization, but this association was observed in longer delays compared to the no-delay control group.
Conclusion:
The timing of initiating sepsis bundle therapy should be highlighted by medical professionals, and additional investigations are required to refine the optimal timing for the clinical implementation of bundle therapy.
