Abstract:
Forest restoration has to move beyond attempts to rebuild complex ecosystems and instead focus on creating the conditions for their self-organization. Artificial intelligence can support this transition by expanding human capacity to navigate complexity, but if applied uncritically, it could reinforce the very biases it is intended to overcome.
