Abstract:
Merging bound states in the continuum offers a powerful route to compact lasers, but maximum Q is not always optimal. Peng and colleagues show that pre-merging conditions provide stronger threshold discrimination between target and competing modes, establishing modal selectivity as a key design rule for robust single-mode microscale BIC lasers.
