Abstract:
The superconductivity of MBC5and M2BC11ternary compounds, with M being the group 1-3 metal elements, is systematically studied by first principles calculations. Superconductivity with critical temperatureTcbelow 10 K is predicted for MBC5compounds when M are alkali earth or La atoms. For M2BC11compounds, superconductivity withTcbelow 5 K is predicted for M=Na, K, and Rb, while higherTcis predicted for M=Mg and Ca. In particular, the Mg2BC11exhibits an exceptionally highTcof 43.9 K. The results obtained by our first-principles calculations enrich our knowledge in the structure and superconductivity of metal borocarbide ternary compounds and provide useful guidance for further experimental synthesis and discovery.

Theory of Metallic Conduction
In this theory, Newton's second law of motion is used to determine the acceleration of an electron in the presence of an applied electric field. Then, its velocity is expressed via this acceleration.

Colors and Magnetism
When atoms or molecules absorb light at the proper frequency, their electrons are excited to higher-energy orbitals. For many main group atoms and molecules, the absorbed photons are in the ultraviolet range of the electromagnetic spectrum, which cannot be detected by the human eye. For coordination compounds, the energy difference between the d orbitals often allows photons in the visible range to be absorbed and emitted, which is seen as colors by the human eye.
