Abstract:
A 4-year-old boy developed a fever followed by painful, polymorphic skin lesions after travel to Cameroon, raising suspicion for mpox. Viral testing was negative; wound culture grew Panton-Valentine leucocidin-positive Staphylococcus aureus with additional, potentially synergistic virulence genes. This case demonstrates that the differential diagnosis of skin lesions following travel should include this increasingly recognized pathogen, prompting appropriate Panton-Valentine leucocidin testing.
