Factors Influencing Organ Donation Registration Among Saudis: A Qualitative Study

Despite positive attitudes toward organ donation in Saudi Arabia, the donation rate remains insufficient to meet the growing demand. This study explored Saudi citizens' perceptions of posthumous organ donation and examined the motivations and barriers affecting donor registration.

This study included 16 participants from Riyadh and the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia. Participant perceptions were explored using a hybrid descriptive qualitative approach. Data from interviews and a focus group were analyzed using NVivo.

Modeling behavior, altruism, and ease of registration were identified as key facilitators of organ donation.

The findings indicate that altruistic values and Islamic teachings can influence perceptions of organ donation. Integrating these values into targeted awareness campaigns may help address misconceptions, improve knowledge, and increase donor registration rates.
