Abstract:
After condylar fracture surgery, the temporomandibular joint undergoes varying degrees of self-repair. Usually, slow bone remodeling occurs. However, 2 abnormal patterns of condylar remodeling after condylar fracture surgery are found: one is in situ condylar bone regeneration, and the other is ectopic bone formation within the soft tissue of the joint capsule. Both of these abnormal patterns of bone formation require increased caution. Timely mouth-opening training can prevent the occurrence of joint ankylosis. Regular follow-up is necessary.
