Abstract:
Approximately 10-30% of patients with coarctation of the aorta will have an associated ventricular septal defect (VSD), and surgery remains the gold standard treatment. We describe a hybrid approach with surgical repair of the coarctation via left thoracotomy followed immediately by per-atrial VSD device closure through the same incision, which might decrease morbidity and mortality when compared to a standard open surgical approach.
