Extending the Choroidal Nervous System Model in Central Serous Chorioretinopathy: A Neuroendocrine-Neurovascular

Abstract:
Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) involves complex interactions between choroidal vascular, autonomic, and neuroendocrine mechanisms. Building on the model proposed by Leclercq et al., we propose a complementary neuroendocrine-neurovascular framework in which systemic stress-related dysregulation may influence autonomic function and choroidal homeostasis. The choroidal nervous system may therefore represent a local interface translating systemic neuroendocrine alterations into vascular remodeling and retinal pigment epithelium dysfunction. This perspective may provide new insights into CSC pathophysiology and future disease phenotyping.
