Arthroscopic Hip Capsule Closure Augmented With a Nonwoven Polyethylene Terephthalate Scaffolding

Abstract:
The importance of hip capsule closure after arthroscopy has increasingly been shown to improve patient-reported outcomes and decrease the risk of revision surgery. Nevertheless, not all surgeons close the capsule, and not all closures heal appropriately. Reasons for lack of closure and or closure failure include deficient tissue quality and the procedure being technically demanding. The purpose of this technical note is to show an innovative capsule closure during hip arthroscopy via the use of a nonwoven polyethylene terephthalate augment that is secured to the native capsular tissue using a "felting needle" mechanism. Our technique describes a user-friendly method of providing a mechanically strong augmentation to the repair at time zero.
