Local Instantaneous Iron Loss Measurement in Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Abstract:
Conventional iron loss measurement methods for grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES), typified by the single sheet tester (SST), evaluate the average iron loss over a large area during one excitation cycle. However, the spatial and temporal resolutions of these conventional methods are insufficient for evaluating local instantaneous iron loss associated with local magnetic domain structure changes occurring near grain boundaries in GOES. Therefore, this study proposes a novel measurement method that dramatically improves the spatial and temporal resolutions, enabling the measurement of local instantaneous iron loss. To validate the proposed method, the local instantaneous iron loss at the same location was compared before and after magnetic domain refinement.
