Background:
Breast augmentation is among the most performed plastic surgeries worldwide, with growing relevance for both aesthetic enhancement and psychological well-being. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of primary breast augmentation on patients' life satisfaction.
Methods:
A prospective study was conducted in 44 women undergoing primary breast augmentation. Outcomes were assessed using the validated Polish version of the BREAST-Q questionnaire preoperatively and at 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively. Changes over time and correlations between domains were analyzed.
Results:
Significant improvements in quality of life were observed, particularly in psychosocial and sexual well-being. Psychosocial well-being increased from 50.8 ± 19.8 preoperatively to 91.5 ± 12.6 at 12 months, while sexual well-being improved from 47.1 ± 22.9 to 87.5 ± 14.9. Physical well-being showed a transient decline at 3 months, followed by recovery to near-baseline levels at 12 months. Satisfaction with breasts increased markedly over time. The procedure demonstrated a low complication rate, with one major complication and no cases requiring reoperation.
Conclusions:
Primary breast augmentation leads to significant and sustained improvements in patient-reported quality of life and satisfaction. Despite a transient decline in physical well-being, recovery occurs over time. These findings support breast augmentation as a safe and effective intervention for improving patient-reported outcomes.
