Abstract:
Due to their superior physical and chemical characteristics, MXene quantum dots (MXQDs) are regarded as outstanding zero-dimensional nanomaterials. The excitation-dependent emission properties, photostability, biocompatibility and dispersion stability of these QDs make them potential candidates for solving biomedical and environmental problems. Owing to their remarkable properties and biocompatibility, MXQDs represent a new generation of smart nanosystems used for cancer diagnostics and treatment, imaging, sensing, tissue engineering, and drug delivery. However, there are many problems related to their biodegradability, photoluminescence, long-term toxicity, and biodistribution properties, which need to be carefully considered. This review focuses on the current developments of MXQDs in healthcare applications and also on the current trends and future perspectives.
