Directable Weathering Simulation of Rust-Preventive Coating Films with Pseudo-Time Reversal
Abstract:
Computational weathering depicts age-related deterioration caused by environmental factors, such as rain, wind, sunlight, and dust, and it is essential for photorealistic computer graphics (CG). Although many methods use physical simulation to reproduce complex time-evolving phenomena, their one-way progression complicates the modification of unintended results of CG content creation. In response, we focus on coating delamination, a common degradation phenomenon involving deformation, and we propose a directable weathering simulation method with pseudo-time reversal. Our method extends a previous method by introducing a parallelizable computation procedure that accelerates the simulation and improves directability by enabling users to offset generated deterioration effects in a space- and time-limited manner.
