Specialized vascular niches preserve adult neural circuits
1Molecular Neurobiology Unit, IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute, 20132 Milan, Italy.
Abstract:
In this issue of Neuron, Zhu et al.1 show that Netrin-4 from specialized arterial smooth muscle cells restrains a latent death pathway in a subset of adult sympathetic neurons, revealing a neurovascular mechanism that selectively maintains mature neural circuits through spatially restricted survival signals.
