Potential of Dietary Microalgae as Feed Additive in Japanese Quail

Abstract:
Due to substantial increase of human population, demand for sustainable protein sources of livestock, poultry, and fish also increases. To meet the escalating demand for protein-rich food, there is also need of finding suitable feed ingredients to improve the growth and health of poultry especially quails. Employing microalgae as feed may promote increased health and digestive system functions. Microalgae are considered as a sustainable alternative to the conventional feed due to their unique nutritional composition, high protein content, rich in essential fatty acids minerals, antioxidants and vitamins, and thus have ability to improve quails diet. Additionally, microalgae improve health quality by enhancing immune status, reducing oxidative stress, and enhancing antimicrobial benefits. Thus, incorporating microalgae supplementation to quail feed enhances meat and egg quality, improves growth performance, and promotes digestive system functions.
