Photomechanical motion and emission switching in photoreactive isostructural transition metal complexes

Abstract:
Three isostructural complexes [M(9-AnBz)2(4-StPy)2(MeOH)2] of Mn(II), Fe(II), and Ni(II) are reported, among which the Mn(II) and Ni(II) complexes exhibit photosalient behaviour and fluorescence switching through solid-state [2+2] photocycloaddition of 4-StPy. Embedding the Mn(II) complex in a polyvinyl alcohol matrix produces a flexible photomechanical actuator for prototype light-triggered electrical switching.
