This is not your fault: a reflection on cancer and pregnancy loss
1, Chicago, USA. blancharddpt@gmail.com.
Abstract:
L Blanchard, a young survivor, was diagnosed with and treated for early-stage breast cancer. After undergoing years of treatment, including ongoing endocrine therapy, Leanna describes the emotional journey of pregnancy planning and loss after breast cancer. She describes a range of struggles, including fears of recurrence as she considers therapy breaks to pursue family planning. She also describes a myriad of emotions related to pregnancy losses after a cancer diagnosis. Through all these challenges, Leanna has continued to work in physical therapy and support other individuals recovering after a cancer diagnosis.Implications for Cancer Survivors Adolescent and young adult cancer survivors may face unique challenges related to fertility and family planning after cancer diagnosis and treatment. Survivors should be offered counseling on fertility and family planning options at the time of diagnosis and should be provided ongoing support in these areas throughout their treatment and survivorship experience.
