Abstract:
The essential aim of any scientific report is the "clear communication of meaning". This aim can be extremely challenging to individuals not writing in their native language. English is the most prevalent language used for the writing of scientific reports throughout the world, but the "clear communication of meaning" is difficult in English due to many inherent ambiguities in the language. This paper contains a listing of "trouble" words and expressions typically encountered in English scientific writing. The listing gives examples of the problems with, or the misusage of the words and expressions to help aid non-native English speakers understand the correct English scientific word usage.
