Abstract:
The study evaluated the effects of comenic acid (100 μM) on the intensity of oxidative processes in the midbrain, as well as on behavioral activity and learning in rats exposed to manganese chloride (MnCl2) at a dose corresponding to 100 mg Mn. Manganese intoxication over 42 days led to a significant increase in the level of chemiluminescence of midbrain tissue samples, along with decreased motor activity, increased anxiety, and impaired learning. Administration of comenic acid at a dose of 5 mg/kg starting from day 14 of intoxication largely prevented the induction of oxidative processes and maintained the behavioral and learning parameters at the control levels. It was also found that comenic acid (100 μM) prevented death of rat cerebellar neurons in vitro caused by 100 μM MnCl2.
