Adequate restaging after TNT in rectal cancer: pitfalls in radiological (or MRI) assessment

MRI is the mainstay for locoregional imaging assessment in rectal cancer. In light of the introduction of neoadjuvant therapies, such as total neoadjuvant treatment (TNT) and organ-preserving treatment for complete responders after TNT, accurate restaging is pivotal. This paper reviews the main MRI features for near-complete and complete responses after TNT and elaborates on the recently published rectal cancer MR imaging ESGAR guidelines.
