Abstract:
The question of when people first entered the American continents has been the subject of scholarly research for over a century, yet a consensus remains elusive. This is in part due to the unique circumstances of the peopling process itself, in part because of the specific history of the field and cultural dynamics of the researchers [1], and in part because of extraordinary recent contributions from the fields of paleogenomics, new archaeological discoveries, and insights from related fields. In this article, we review different models for early migrations into the Western Hemisphere, considering their compatibility with genetic, archaeological, and environmental evidence.
