[Osteoporosis: which management strategies in 2026?]

Osteoporosis is a treatable chronic disease characterized by decreased bone strength and an increased risk of fractures. Due to its insidious progression, it often remains underdiagnosed until a fragility fracture occurs. This condition is associated with significant morbidity, including chronic pain, impaired quality of life, and loss of autonomy, as well as a substantial economic burden related to hospitalizations and increased mortality. Predominantly affecting women, osteoporosis remains largely undertreated, with approximately 80% of eligible women not receiving appropriate therapy. This article outlines diagnostic and therapeutic management strategies for primary care practice, with the aim of improving early detection and reducing the individual and societal burden of the disease.
