Abstract:
The asymmetric contra-thermodynamic double-bond isomerization of alkenes remains a formidable challenge due to the lack of activating functional groups for chiral catalyst recognition. Here we report a photoredox/chromium combined catalysis that enables highly asymmetric double-bond isomerization of internal alkenes to enantioenriched terminal alkenes. This atom-economical transformation proceeds via SET/PT or HAT-mediated generation of a chiral allylchromium intermediate, followed by enantiodetermining protodemetalation. The protocol exhibits good functional group compatibility and has been successfully applied to the concise asymmetric total synthesis of (+)-licochalcone E.

Reduction of Alkenes: Asymmetric Catalytic Hydrogenation
The metal catalyst used can be either heterogeneous or homogeneous. When hydrogenation of an alkene generates a chiral center, a pair of enantiomeric products is expected to form. However, an enantiomeric excess of one of the products can be facilitated using an enantioselective reaction or an...

Metals like palladium, platinum, and nickel are commonly used in their solid forms — fine powder on an inert surface. As these catalysts remain insoluble in the reaction mixture, they are referred to as heterogeneous catalysts.
