Abstract:
Liver fibrosis is a key link in the occurrence and development of chronic liver disease. Therefore, liver fibrosis inhibition has important significance in the prevention and treatment of chronic liver diseases. With the deepening of research on hepatocytes, researchers have discovered that distinct stimuli to hepatocytes induce corresponding programmed cell death through different molecular mechanisms (including apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, panaptosis, ferroptosis, cuproptosis, and autophagy), thereby effecting promotion or inhibition in liver fibrosis. Notably, hepatocyte programmed cell death regulation can alleviate or exacerbate the fibrosis progression. This paper elucidates the different role types, the related inducing mechanisms, and corresponding regulatory intervention measures in hepatocyte programmed cell death to provide a new theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of liver fibrosis.

Overview of Cell Death
Cell death was observed in the early 19th century, but there was no experimental evidence to prove it. In 1842, Carl Vogt first discovered cell death in a metamorphic toad; however, it was not termed ‘cell death.’ Scientists discovered different cell death pathways only in the 20th century...
