Beyond Technology Adoption: Examining Need-Adoption Gaps Across Care Tasks in Taiwan's Long-Term Care Facilities
1Department of Social Work & Child Welfare, Providence University, Taichung, Taiwan.
Abstract:
This study examined need-adoption gaps across 21 care tasks in Taiwan's residential long-term care facilities using a questionnaire survey of 284 facilities that included open-ended questions. Administrative tasks generally showed high need and adoption, while direct care tasks often showed low need and adoption. The largest gaps involved safety monitoring, pressure-injury management, and transfers. Stronger technological infrastructure was associated with lower odds of safety-monitoring and transfer gaps, while external information and networking capacity was associated with lower odds of a pressure-injury gap. Open-ended responses highlighted spatial constraints, time-consuming operation, unstable networks, false alarms, and the need for on-site assessment.
