[Neuroscience put to the test]

The concept of causality helps distinguish neuroscience from psychoanalysis. However, it is the Real and its effects that separate them on a conceptual level. Indeed, when it comes to organic and psychic causality, the two paradigms approach the question of disorder or symptom differently. Psychoanalysis does not readily lend itself to measurable, objectifying scientific methods. It takes into account singular subjectivity within a speaking body subject to lack and desire. Conversely, neuroscience promotes a neurological causality to explain the entirety of psychic life based on neural mechanisms localized in the brain.
