Abstract:
Global health has gained traction as a key feature of medical education in recent years, with increasing interest among medical students and residents across a range of specialties, including Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery (ENT). However, past literature studying the impact these opportunities have on prospective ENT residents has been limited by low response rates. This study employs an eight question anonymous Qualtrics survey administered to applicants who interviewed for the ENT residency program at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. The survey achieved a 73.0% response rate (n = 25). Among those who responded, 96.0% reported no prior involvement in global health. However, 64.0% expressed the presence of global health opportunities would increase their ranking of a residency program. Our findings contribute to a growing body of literature highlighting global health interest among ENT trainees with important implications for recruitment and curriculum design.
