1Professor emeritus, Sveučilište u Rijeci E-pošta: juraj.sepcic1@gmail.com
Abstract:
Medical doctor, poet, and musician, Giacomo Lemesich (Lemessi) (1894–1953) started his career as a ship’s surgeon (1920–1924) and continued as a family doctor in various Liburnian (1925–1946) and Ligurian (1947–1953) coastal communities. He left an indelible trace in the collective memory of the communities where he worked as a highly professional physician of great expertise. Moreover, his profound humanity and empathy provided comfort to the poor and miserable. G. Lemessich’s figure and work can set an example to young persons pursuing the art of medicine to improve the relationship between doctor and patient, which is, unfortunately, on the verge of changing irreversibly.
