Introduction:
Limited real-world studies have evaluated outcomes after switching treatment from a reference product (RP) to a biosimilar product in noninfectious uveitis (NIU). The objective of this real-world study was to assess the outcomes of switching from RP adalimumab to biosimilar adalimumab-atto in the United States.
Research Design And Methods:
This retrospective pre-post study included adults with NIU who were stable on RP adalimumab, switched to adalimumab-atto, and followed for up to 6 months. Outcomes included the use of systemic and local high-dose corticosteroids, analyzed using interrupted time series analyses, and changes in visual acuity among patients with both pre- and post-switch acuity measurements.
Results:
One hundred and ninety patients were included, with a mean age of 50.5 ± 16.0 years, 61.1% female, and a mean disease duration of 6.5 ± 6.3 years prior to switching. There was no statistically significant trend in usage of either systemic or local high-dose corticosteroid after the switch (p = 0.33 and p = 0.36, respectively). There was no change in vision acuity (n = 110, p = 0.61).
Conclusion:
The lack of change in systemic or local high-dose corticosteroid use following the switch from RP adalimumab to adalimumab-atto suggests that the switch may be effective and safe in adult patients with NIU.
