Abstract:
High-voltage electrical injuries to the upper limb cause multiple areas of tissue loss and particularly involve the region of the fingers, wrist and elbow. The nature of the damage poses a challenge to the reconstructive surgeon in terms of ensuring the adequacy of debridement, timing, and type of soft tissue coverage for the various regions, as well as secondary reconstruction to restore function. We illustrate the possible solution by discussing the care pathway of a young boy who sustained electrical burn injuries to fingers and the volar aspect of the wrist with tissue loss in both upper limbs.
