Abstract:
Metapseudomonas otitidis is a Gram-negative bacterium of uncertain clinical significance that shares high genetic similarity with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, potentially leading to misidentification in routine diagnostic workflows. We report a case of M. otitidis misidentified as carbapenemase-producing P. aeruginosa in a surveillance culture from an immunocompromised patient. Whole-genome sequencing was performed to investigate antimicrobial resistance determinants, virulence-associated traits, and mobilome of the isolate. These findings underscore the importance of accurate species-level identification to avoid diagnostic errors and improve surveillance of emerging opportunistic pathogens.
