Abstract:
The (formal) replacement of one P atom of P162- by {Mo(CO)4} resulted in the isolation of [(η2-P15)Mo(CO)4]3- (1) as its [Na(crypt-222)]+ salt. Quantum-chemical calculations show that anion 1 preserves the overall P162--derived framework, but undergoes local geometric opening and electronic redistribution at the insertion site.
