Abstract:
Peritonitis remains a significant complication in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD), often necessitating hospitalization and catheter removal. While gram-positive organisms predominate, gram-negative pathogens, including Citrobacter species, are less commonly implicated. This report describes the first documented case of PD-associated peritonitis caused by Citrobacter sedlakii, a rare gram-negative bacillus of the Enterobacteriaceae family. We detail the clinical presentation, management, and outcomes of a 31-year-old female patient with recurrent peritonitis, highlighting the challenges posed by this unusual pathogen. This case underscores the need for heightened awareness of rare etiologies in PD-related infections and informs strategies for their management.
