Abstract:
Scleritis is a potentially sight-threatening inflammation with a broad spectrum of anterior and posterior manifestations. In addition to characteristic pain and the risk of scleral thinning, posterior segment involvement is of particular clinical importance. It may cause rapid visual deterioration and present with findings suggestive of other inflammatory, vascular, or neuro-ophthalmic disorders, including venous stasis and neuroretinitis. This case series illustrates anterior and posterior manifestations of scleritis, with particular emphasis on retinal and optic disc involvement. These cases highlight the importance of early anti-inflammatory treatment. Depending on disease severity, systemic corticosteroids and additional immunomodulatory therapy may be required.
