Introduction:
Transition from pediatric to adult care represents a critical phase for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with chronic conditions. In Italy, there are currently no validated Italian-language instruments to assess transition readiness. The aim of this study was to translate, adapt, and validate the Transition Readiness Assessment Questionnaire (TRAQ 6.0) for content and face validity.
Methods:
A multiphase methodological study was conducted. After obtaining permission from the original authors, the TRAQ 6.0 was translated using a forward-backward translation methodology. Content and face validity were assessed in March 2026 in 10 AYAs with chronic conditions, aged 18 to 28 years, followed at Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital. Content validity was analyzed using I-CVI and S-CVI after dichotomization of relevance ratings. Face validity was further explored through teach-back.
Results:
The translation showed consistency with the original version and good adaptability to the Italian context. Face validity demonstrated overall good comprehensibility, with two items being reformulated to improve their cultural and organizational appropriateness. I-CVI values ranged from 0.80 to 1.00; S-CVI/Ave was 0.91, confirming good content validity.
Conclusion:
The Italian version of the TRAQ 6.0 showed good content and face validity and represents a promising tool to support a more standardized assessment of transition readiness among AYAs with chronic conditions in the Italian context.
