Background:
The use of chlorhexidine as an adjunct to nonsurgical periodontal therapy has become a standard practice. However, its use presents some limitations in terms of treatment duration and patient compliance. For these reasons, clinical research is increasingly oriented towards alternative or complementary approaches aimed at supporting mechanical debridement.
Materials And Methods:
This case report describes a patient affected by periodontitis who underwent nonsurgical periodontal therapy, with the application of ozone as an adjunct through Oria Bite appliance, an innovative customized tray fabricated through intraoral scanning, used for the targeted application of ozonated gel (GeliO3). Clinical periodontal parameters were evaluated at baseline, and at 1-month and 6-month follow-up visits.
Results:
Preliminary clinical observations showed maintenance of periodontal stability, suggesting a possible role of the customized tray in supporting the control of gingival inflammation during the maintenance phase. The procedure was well-tolerated by the patient.
Conclusion:
The potential role of the customized device as a complementary approach in the adjunctive treatment of periodontitis deserves further evaluation in terms of cost-effectiveness and workflow. Future controlled clinical studies with long-term follow-up are required to confirm the reproducibility of the observed results.
